National Service Day at the New Mexico Legislature

Celebrating the Impact of National Service and Volunteerism in New Mexico

State legislators, community leaders and the general public are invited to attend National Service Recognition Day on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the State Capitol in Santa Fe, which is being coordinated by the New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism (NMCCV).  National Service Recognition Day represents an opportunity to highlight how national service participants volunteer their services and expertise to improve the quality of life in New Mexico in the areas of cultural awareness, education, and natural resource preservation, just to name a few. Remarks from key officials including Cabinet Secretary Celina Bussey will be made at 10:00 am in the Rotunda to highlight and celebrate the impact National Service and volunteerism has in New Mexico.

NMCCV is a Governor-appointed Commission under the Department of Workforce Solutions. The commission administers the state’s AmeriCorps grant funding award from the Corporation for National and Community Services. As a result, more than 4,500 people of all ages and backgrounds are helping to meet local needs, strengthen communities, and increase civic engagement through national service in New Mexico. Serving at more than 690 locations throughout the state, these citizens tutor and mentor children, support veterans and military families, provide health services, restore the environment, respond to disasters, increase economic opportunity, and recruit and manage volunteers.
