Interview Tips

Hire me, please!

Unless you are an extrovert and find it easy to sell yourself, interviews are stressful. Interviewers understand how nervous you are and will empathize with you. Think of an interview as a performance. Most good performers spend considerable time practicing. Practice interviews so that you can do your best. Read up on different techniques and strategies. Find out what helps you handle nerves and stress. When you are done with an interview, write down notes on what went well and what you can work on for next time. Here are a few more considerations for the interview:

  • Watch your nervous habits - shaking your foot, giggling, rambling...
  • Portray confidence by sitting up straight, walking tall and making eye contact.
  • Shake hands. Make sure your hands aren't sweaty. If you've been sick, always mention..."I'd shake your hand, but I've had this slight cold." Interviewers may find that courteous.
  • Don't forget to breathe. In fact, try taking a deep breath as you prepare your answer to a question. This may give you second to collect your thoughts or at the very least provide oxygen for your brain.
