Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates

The New Mexico Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) Wage Survey is a joint effort by the US Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the Bureau of Economic Research and Analysis of the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS). The BLS provides the procedures and technical support while the State Employment Security Agencies (SESA’s) collect and compile the data. The SESA’s produce occupational employment and wage estimates for the State, Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs), and Workforce Investment Areas (WIAs) areas using the Estimates Delivery System produced by the North Carolina Employment Security Commission. For New Mexico, the SESA is the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions. The ER&A Bureau publishes these statistics on the NMDWS website http://www.dws.state.nm.us/ under Labor Market Information. The BLS produces similar occupational estimates for the nation, each state and each MSA and publishes these estimates at their USDOL BLS website.

Under contract with the BLS, the NMDWS collects data on the Occupational Employment Survey from New Mexico employers. The OES survey is a semi-annual survey with approximately 1,600 employers sampled each panel. OES survey forms are being mailed to employers throughout the state. The reference period for this survey year is the payroll that includes May 12 and November 12. The data collected provides valuable input for occupational wage statistics and occupational projections for the state of New Mexico.

The current editions of the wage statistics published on this site are possible thanks to the thousands of New Mexico employers who participated in the Occupational Employment and Wage Survey.
