Workforce Solutions transitioning to more secure Way2Go Card for
Unemployment Insurance prepaid debit card benefit payments

New cards will be sent to claimants in April

ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) will be issuing new Unemployment Insurance (UI) Prepaid Debit Cards starting in April 2022.

“Upholding the integrity of UI claims through increased security features is extremely important to our department,” said NMDWS Acting Secretary Ricky Serna. “The new Way2Go Card will feature a chip that will provide additional security when claimants are making transactions.”

Claimants will still be able to use their Wells Fargo EPPICard until June 15, 2022, after which any remaining balance will automatically be transferred to the claimant’s new Way2Go Mastercard on June 22, 2022.

NMDWS is currently providing benefits to just over 8,000 claimants, of those 40 percent receive their UI benefit payments via debit card while the remainder receive direct deposit. A claimant may change their payment method from debit card to direct deposit by accessing their Unemployment Insurance Tax & Claims System claimant homepage at https://www.jobs.state.nm.us and selecting “Manage Account.”

The new in-network ATM service provider will be Allpoint ATM network. There are unlimited in-network ATM withdrawals for no fee. A listing of Allpoint ATMs is available at https://www.allpointnetwork.com. The Way2Go Card fee schedule is available on the DWS website at https://www.dws.state.nm.us/Unemployment.

The card may be used for everyday shopping as a credit or debit card, including, at gas stations, online shopping, paying bills, dining, and transportation.

Individuals who are no longer collecting benefits but have a remaining balance on their Wells Fargo EPPICard are encouraged to spend, withdraw, request a check for the remaining balance, or transfer funds to their bank account from their EPPICard prior to June 15, 2022. Any remaining balance after June 15th will be moved to New Mexico State Unclaimed Property.

Individuals may request a check or transfer the remaining balance to their bank account by contacting EPPICard Customer Service at 1-866-898-2213.
