NMDWS celebrates National Apprenticeship Day with record growth

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) is celebrating National Apprenticeship Day today, April 30, 2025, with the addition of 14 new program sponsors offering Registered Apprenticeship Programs – the most New Mexico has ever added in a single year.

Since Governor Lujan Grisham took office, 22 new Registered Apprenticeship Programs have been launched contributing to an 86% growth in the number of apprentices statewide.

This milestone highlights New Mexico’s commitment to expanding career pathways and strengthening the workforce across industries ranging from traditional skilled trades to film and media to higher education and more.

“Our focus on apprenticeships is transforming New Mexico’s workforce,” said NMDWS Cabinet Secretary Sarita Nair. “Our team has worked hard to make the process for registering new apprenticeships easier and faster. With new programs across key sectors, we are opening more doors for New Mexicans to build successful, high-wage careers.”

The 14 new program sponsors include:

  • Future Focused Education

  • Katharsis Media

  • Gridworks Inc.

  • Kinesio

  • Hobbs Munic9ipal Schools

  • Sandia National Labs

  • Wall Colmonoy

  • Kit Karson Electric Cooperative

  • Assistance Dogs of the West

  • MANSCo

  • 814 Solutions

  • Merrick & Company

  • Fix Network

  • New Mexico Public Education Department

Through a Registered Apprenticeship Program, individuals earn a paycheck while gaining hands-on experience and nationally recognized credentials. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 90% of apprentices stay employed after completing their program, with an average starting salary of $80,000.

America’s Job Center New Mexico locations statewide are available to engage with job seekers and employers to help them explore apprenticeship training models and develop apprenticeship training programs that open opportunities to teach specific skills and retain employees right here in New Mexico.

Information on more than 70 registered apprenticeship opportunities, as well as pre-apprenticeship, is available on the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions Website https://www.dws.state.nm.us/apprenticeship.
