Unemployment Insurance

Unemployment Insurance (UI) claims are processed by the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS). Everyone is eligible to file an application for UI benefits; no one is turned away, regardless of the reason for termination.

There are several ways to file for unemployment:

  • ONLINE: You may file your new (initial) UI claim online by going to the New Mexico Jobs website, www.jobs.state.nm.us. All individuals who choose to apply online, or would like to access their online claimant account, must FIRST create an account with New Mexico Jobs to access the UI Tax & Claims system.  
  • CALL TOLL-FREE: You may also file by phone by calling 1-877-664-6984. After following the automated prompts, your call will be transferred to a Customer Service Agent (CSA) who will complete you claim. The UI Operations Center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. 
  • IN-PERSON: You may file in-person at any America's Job Center New Mexico Location.

Documents needed to file for UI by federal employees:

  • Social Security Number (SSN)
  • Mailing address and phone number(s) of employer(s) worked for in last 18 months (to include the start and end date of each employer).
  • Recent Standard Form (SF)-50, or 
  • an SF-8 (if issued), or
  • Most recent federal W-2 form, or
  • Recent federal earning and leave statements
  • If the above documents or proof of wages are not available, and individual may submit an ETA-935 Claimants Affidavit of Federal Civilian Service form
  • For non-citizens, an alien registration number and expiration date must be provided.

Unemployment Insurance (UI) claims are processed by the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS), and there are three ways to file an unemployment claim:

  • 1-877-664-6984 TOLL-FREE TELEPHONE
    You may also file over the phone by calling 1-877-664-6984. After following the automated prompts, your call will be transferred to a Customer Service Agent (CSA) who will complete your claim. Regular hours for the UI Operations Center are Monday–Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.

  • IN-PERSON
    You may file in-person at any Amercia's Job Cetner New Mexico Location.

Whether you file online or by phone, you will need the following information to file a new claim:

    • Social Security Number (SSN)
    • Mailing address and phone number(s) of employer(s) you worked for in last 18 months
    • The starting and ending dates of your last job (or jobs if more than one employer in last 18 months)
    • If you are a non-citizen, have your alien registration number and expiration date
    • If you worked during the week you are filing your claim, be sure you know the gross amount (total dollars and cents before any deductions) of your pay before filing
    • If you are a federal employee you must provide your recent Standard (SF)-50, or an SF-8 (if issued) or your most recent federal W-2 form, or recent federal earnings and leave statements.
    • If you do not have any of the above documents or proof of wages you may submit an ETA-935 Claimants Affidavit of Federal Civilian Service form
    • Pencil and paper to write down questions and instructions

Yes, after you have applied for benefits, you must file a weekly certification for each week for which you are applying for benefits and provide at least 2 work search requirements. Weekly certifications may be filed online or by phone.

You may complete your weekly certification any day of the week, 24 hours a day, online at www.jobs.state.nm.us, or over the phone at 1-877-664-6984 Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

    Develop, create, and modify general computer applications software or specialized utility programs. Analyze user needs and develop software solutions. Design software or customize software for client use with the aim of optimizing operational efficiency.

  • Do you want to become a

    Plumber?

    Assemble, install, alter, and repair pipelines or pipe systems that carry water, steam, air, or other liquids or gases. May install heating and cooling equipment and mechanical control systems.

  • Do you want to become an

    Ironworker?

    Raise, place, and unite iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks. May erect metal storage tanks and assemble prefabricated metal buildings.

  • Do you want to become an

    Electrician?

    Perform preliminary work with the material and tools of the trade; residential and commercial rough wiring and finish work including the installation of various kinds of wires, cables, and conduits per the National Electrical Code; industrial lighting and service installation; motors controls and installation including emergency generators, relays, and timing devices.
