Unemployment Insurance Operations Center Closed Monday

(Albuquerque) – All New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions’ offices, including the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Operations Center, will be closed Monday, September 2, 2013 in observance of Labor Day. The department urges claimants to plan accordingly.

Sequestration Lowers Federally-Funded Unemployment Insurance Benefits

(Albuquerque) – The Budget Control Act (Public Law 112-25) signed by President Obama has directed federal budget cuts, known as “sequestration,” to many federal programs, including Unemployment Insurance. The federally mandated budget cuts will affect the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program (known as EUC benefits, federal extensions, or federal “Tiers”). Individuals applying for Tier 1 or Tier 2 EUC Unemployment Insurance benefits beginning June 2, 2013 will receive a reduced weekly benefit amount. The weekly benefit amount will be reduced  by  25 percent, which the department estimates may initially impact approximately 2,100 individuals who file the first few weeks of June.

Workforce Solutions Extends Hours of Unemployment Insurance System Availability

(Albuquerque, NM) - The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) has extended the hours that the new Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax & Claims System is available for approximately 23,000 claimants and 45,000 employers across the state. The online system will now be available Sunday through Friday from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Every week, nearly half of all the UI claims filed and 70 percent of certifications for benefits are filed via the online system. In addition, over 35,000 employers have activated their accounts in the system and can now take advantage of self-service online functionality including electronically filing wage reports and viewing notices of claim filings.

“We have monitored the percentage of individuals and employers accessing the UI system since the launch just three months ago,” said Cabinet Secretary Celina Bussey. “Increasing the time that someone can log in to the system, particularly adding an hour in the evenings, will allow additional time to access the system and more opportunity for those who need to view their account, update information, or check the status of a claim.”

The online UI Tax & Claims System will be available Sunday through Friday from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. The system can be accessed through the main NMDWS website at www.dws.state.nm.us, or individuals can go directly to the New Mexico Workforce Connection site at www.jobs.state.nm.us. The hours for the UI Operations Center, for those who need to speak to a Customer Service Agent, will remain the same from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The UI Operations Center can be reached via the 1-877-NM-4-MYUI (1-877-664-6984) toll-free number.

Additional information about the new UI Tax & Claims System and the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions is available at www.dws.state.nm.us. For the latest announcements and updates, follow NMDWS on Twitter (twitter.com/NMDWS) and the official YouTube channel (youtube.com/user/nmdws).

Changes to the 1-877-664-6984 Unemployment Insurance Self-Service Options

(Albuquerque, NM) – The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) announced changes to the weekly certification option on the 1-877-NM-4-MYUI (1-877-664-6984) toll-free number effective Sunday, November 25, 2012. As part of the implementation phase of the new Unemployment Insurance (UI) system, the option to certify via 1-877-664-6984 will only be available Monday through Saturday. There will not be an option to certify for weekly benefits on Sundays via 1-877-664-6984; however, individuals can also certify seven days a week via the web at www.dws.state.nm.us on Sundays from 3 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Mondays through Saturdays from 3 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

“We are currently working on reaching out to individuals certifying for UI benefits to explain the changes to the 1-877-664-6984 self-service options and to stress the Sunday certification option via the web at www.dws.state.nm.us,” said Cabinet Secretary Celina Bussey. “Encouraging UI claimants to use the online system allows us to maximize the new functionality and potential of the online UI system coming in January.”

New Look and Functionality for Online Jobs System

(Albuquerque, NM) – The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) will launch the redesigned New Mexico Workforce Connection online system (www.jobs.state.nm.us) as the single portal for reemployment and unemployment services in New Mexico. As of Saturday, October 20, 2012, all Unemployment Insurance (UI) claimants accessing claim information, applying for benefits, and certifying online will log in first to the New Mexico Workforce Connection system (www.jobs.state.nm.us) and then can log into the UI Claims system located in various locations, including on the left-hand side of the page under “Unemployment Insurance.” UI claimants will be required to maintain usernames and passwords for both the online jobs system and the UI claims system.
