I heard that the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Program is ending.

Unemployment insurance programs and extensions funded by the federal CARES Act expired December 26, 2020, including Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC). The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) has started to receive guidance from the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) on implementing the Continued Assistance for Unemployed Workers Act and will provide additional information as it becomes available.

The department urges claimants to plan accordingly.

States await U.S. Department of Labor guidance

The United States Congress is working on legislation that may extend the unemployment benefits programs created under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). If the legislation is enacted, the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) will work to implement program updates as quickly as possible. However, the department must wait on guidance from the U.S. Department of Labor before the provisions of the Act can be implemented.
