NMDWS’s budget prioritizes youth and workforce initiatives

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions is calling on lawmakers to approve $4.6 million, focused on assisting young people who are at risk to successfully transition into the workforce, enhanced case management services, and labor force participation rate research.

New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.3 percent in October 2024, up from 4.2 percent in September and up from 4.0 percent in the previous year. The national unemployment rate in October was 4.1 percent, unchanged from September and up from 3.8 percent in October 2023. Total nonagricultural payroll employment grew by 11,500 jobs, or 1.3 percent, between October 2023 and October 2024.

Chaves County Eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance from Severe Storm and Flooding

President Joseph R. Biden authorized Federal disaster aid for the State of New Mexico making Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) available to businesses and residents whose employment or self-employment was lost or interrupted as a direct result of the severe storm and flooding in Chaves County that took place on October 19-20, 2024. The President acted upon a request by New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.
