AmeriCorps New Mexico Swearing-In Ceremony for Members

(Albuquerque, NM) – The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) and the Serve New Mexico Commission are hosting this year’s Swearing-In Ceremony virtually for new and returning AmeriCorps members on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 11:10 a.m. The ceremony, which includes the Commission’s annual AmeriCorps Service Summit, will be led by Acting Secretary Ricky Serna.

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions, which administers the state’s AmeriCorps program through the Serve New Mexico Commission, has approved $2,846,461 in funding for the 2021-2022 AmeriCorps program year, an increase of $300,000 from the previous year.

AmeriCorps is an opportunity for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to give their time and talent to strengthen communities. AmeriCorps funding is granted to eligible agencies for recruiting, placing, and supporting AmeriCorps members as they serve communities throughout New Mexico. Funds are allocated through a competitive application process overseen by NMDWS, the Serve New Mexico Commission and a Governor-appointed Board of Commissioners.

“As we recover from the pandemic, our state will continue to confront challenges that require unique interventions,” said NMDWS Acting Secretary Ricky Serna. “The hundreds of service positions created through this funding will help communities throughout our state and give AmeriCorps members the benefits of professional experience, a living allowance and funding for their or a family member’s education.”

The 2021-2022 program year funding will support AmeriCorps programs with 500 members between them:

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Mexico;
  • Conservation Legacy;
  • DreamTree Project;
  • EcoServants/Sierra Blanca Service Corps;
  • Families, Youth Incorporated;
  • Mandy’s Special Farm;
  • NACA Inspired Schools Network;
  • Rocky Mountain Youth Corps;
  • Road Runner Food Bank of New Mexico, and
  • Teach For America.
