NMDWS Announces First Tri-County Virtual Job Fair

Promoting Job Opportunities in Chaves, Eddy & Lea Counties

(Albuquerque, NM) - The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions announced the first Tri-County Virtual Job Fair, scheduled for February 15-22, 2012, to connect job seekers statewide with employers in Chaves, Eddy, and Lea Counties. This event is in response to employers’ hiring needs and workforce shortages in each of the counties which have experienced job growth in various industries and unemployment below the statewide rate. Information for the virtual event is available at www.dws.state.nm.us/virtualfair/.

"This event is one way in which state and local agencies can work in collaboration to support the needs of New Mexico businesses," Governor Martinez said. “An available, skilled workforce is the foundation of our local economies, and this is an opportunity to market the jobs available in the southeastern part of the state to those looking for employment.”

The Tri-County Virtual Job Fair is a joint effort of: the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions, the New Mexico Economic Development Department, the Carlsbad Department of Development, the Roswell-Chaves County Economic Development Corporation, and the Economic Development Corporation of Lea County.

"We are excited to partner with the Economic Development Department as well as the economic development organizations in each of these unique counties," said Celina Bussey, Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions. "This is an excellent way to leverage our existing resources and systems to better address workforce needs in southeastern New Mexico."

"As I visited Chaves, Lea, and Eddy Counties, I heard from many employers the need to hire qualified workers and this virtual job fair will help connect them to folks looking for jobs from other parts of the state who many not have previously considered employment in southeastern New Mexico,” said Jon Barela, Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Economic Development Department. “There are some great opportunities in this area for workers right now, and my hope is that we can get New Mexicans looking for work employed."

There is no fee to register for the Tri-County Virtual Job Fair, and the registration process is convenient and user-friendly. Employers and job seekers may access additional information and registration instructions on the official event website,  www.dws.state.nm.us/virtualfair/. All employers in Chaves, Eddy, and Lea Counties are strongly encouraged to register and post job openings by February 13 but can continue to post jobs throughout the job fair. Job seekers can expect a surge of job postings on February 15 and can find information about relocating to the three counties at www.dws.state.nm.us/virtualfair/.
