NMDWS Announces Accelerated Data Release Schedule

Labor Market Data Released Earlier Every Month

(Albuquerque, NM) – The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) will be releasing labor market information and data, including the unemployment rate and job growth numbers, earlier every month. In 2012, New Mexico has joined a growing number of states that release monthly labor market information on an accelerated schedule. The first release on the new 2012 schedule will be next Tuesday, March 13 and will reflect January 2012 data.

The initial set of data—national, statewide, and substate labor force estimates and the statewide preliminary job count—will be released nearly a week earlier than in previous years in the Employment News Release. Data reflecting January 2012 will be released next Tuesday, March
13, 2012. Additionally every month, the more comprehensive Labor Market Review will be published, providing metro area seasonally adjusted unemployment rates, industry data from the employer survey, special articles, and more. This publication will be released next Friday, March
16, 2012.

"There has been increased attention on states' monthly employment data for identifying and monitoring trends during this economic recovery," said Cabinet Secretary Celina Bussey. "The accelerated schedule is in response to the need to provide data in a more timely manner to our data users, customers, and business communities around the state."

Labor market information produced under the federal-state partnership and by the NMDWS Economic Research & Analysis Bureau includes some of the timeliest economic indicators available anywhere. The new schedule sets the release of the previous month’s data around the middle of each current month.  For January and February 2012 data, however, the release schedule has been slightly modified to accommodate benchmarking, a process for revising the data at the end of each year. The full release schedule is available online at www.dws.state.nm.us under Labor Market Information and Monthly News Release.
