Statewide “Hire Veterans Job Fair,” Thursday November 17th
Recruiting and hiring event for veterans, transitioning service members, military spouses, and their families
Albuquerque, NM – The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) announces that this Thursday, November 17th, 2016, the “Hire Veterans Job Fair” will be held in 18 cities and communities around the state, and all of the events are open to the general public but with focus on hiring veterans, transitioning service members, military spouses, and their families. Over 200 employers will be participating in the job fairs in: Albuquerque and the surrounding area; Artesia; Carlsbad; Clovis; Deming; Española; Farmington; Gallup; Hobbs; Las Cruces; Las Vegas; Moriarty; Roswell; Ruidoso; Santa Fe; Silver City; Socorro; and Taos. For the Albuquerque area, the job fair on Thursday will be held at the Albuquerque Convention Center from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eighty participating employers will be recruiting for current job openings and free parking is available in the Convention Center parking garage. Mini workshops will be offered throughout the day onsite at the job fair and will include resume writing, interviewing skills, and more. A resource room will also be available with computer stations and internet access so that individuals can apply online for opportunities they learn about from employers at the job fair.
Also in Albuquerque, the “Hire Veterans Employment Workshop” will be held by the VA Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment Program Regional Office in Albuquerque at the New Mexico Workforce Connection, located at 501 Mountain Road NE, Albuquerque, NM from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Workshop topics include: Creating a Career Catalog; Effective Job Searching; Creating Resumes and Cover Letters; Interview Skills; Dress for Success; Creating Thank You Letters; and Job Acceptance and Salary Negotiation. The “Hire Veterans Job Fair” is part of a series of events designed to help connect more New Mexico veterans, transitioning service members, and their families with career and employment opportunities. The first event in September was an employer summit in Santa Fe tailored for employers, federal contractors, human resources professionals, and more. It was a day of discussion, best practices, and informational sessions about recruiting, hiring, and retaining veterans in New Mexico. The statewide “Hire Veterans Job Fair” this Thursday is part of the continued efforts to connect more workers with military experience and their family members with employers hiring and recruiting for a range of career opportunities.
In addition to Department of Workforce Solutions and the Department of Veteran Services, partners for the “Hire Veterans” events include: the New Mexico National Guard; Los Alamos National Laboratory; Sandia National Laboratories; Lockheed Martin; Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation; SHRM New Mexico; U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; the City of Albuquerque; and the City of Santa Fe.
