Unemployment Insurance benefit tax forms sent out to over 170,000 individuals

(Albuquerque, NM) – New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions sent out the last batch of 1099-G forms this week, with over 170,000 sent out over the month of January.

1099-G forms include all Unemployment Insurance payments that a claimant may have received in 2021, this may also include additional payments such as Lost Wages Assistance (LWA), Return to Work Support Payment, and Federal Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) under the CARES Act.

1099’s report compensation for the year the amount was received, not when it was earned. 94% of issues the department has received regarding 1099’s were a result of a claim that was filed in 2020 but payment was received in 2021; this could result, for example, if an issue was resolved in 2021, for a claim filed in 2020.

“We understand that it is paramount for families to be able to file their taxes in a timely manner,” said Acting Secretary Ricky Serna. “Our team is dedicated to resolving any issues claimants may have with their 1099 as quickly as possible.”

Individuals who may have a question regarding their 1099, or if they feel that they have been a victim of identity theft and received a 1099 in error, they may submit an inquiry form to the department at https://www.dws.state.nm.us/1099. Upon submitting they will be contact back by NMDWS.
