The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) takes fraud prevention and your identity protection seriously. Identity Verification is a requirement in the application process for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits and must be done within 10 days of submitting your UI claim. Failure to do so will result in a delay in processing your claim.

There are three ways to verify your identity when applying for UI benefits.

You may verify your identity at any America's Job Center New Mexico location where a friendly staff member will assist you in this process. A list of office locations is available at https://www.dws.state.nm.us/Office-Locations. Bring the following identification documents with you:

One of the following accepted documents:

  • Social Security Card
  • Past year’s W2 form with full social security number
  • Paycheck stubs with last 4 of social security number

Plus, one of the following:

  • Birth Certificate
  • State issued driver's license
  • State issued ID card
  • Passports and Passport Card
  • Permanent Residence Card
  • Military ID
  • Military DD214
  • Tribal Identification

This identity verification option can be done from any location with an internet connection with Login.gov to upload photos of your identity documents with your phone or computer.

Accepted ID Documents:

  • State Government ID

This option will include a trip to any U.S. Postal Service location. By selecting this option, you will receive a letter through your preferred correspondence method with a barcode and confirmation number that you must bring with you to a U.S. Post Office location along with one of the following documents to verify your identity:

  • State issued driver’s license
  • State issued ID card
  • U.S. Armed Forces or uniformed service ID card (requires secondary ID)
  • U.S. Passport (requires secondary ID)

The post office will not accept the following as proof of identity:

  • Social Security Cards
  • Credit Card or Utility Bill Statements
  • State issued school ID
  • Medical Marijuana Card
  • Concealed Carry License
  • Any expired ID

The Post Office will also need proof of your current address, you may use your ID if the address is current. If your current address is different than what is shown on your ID, you will also need one of the following proofs of address:

  • Lease, mortgage, or deed of trust
  • Voter registration card
  • Vehicle registration card
  • Home or vehicle insurance policy

You must bring a printed copy of your proof of address. The Post Office will not accept photos or screenshots of the documents.

    Plumber?

    Assemble, install, alter, and repair pipelines or pipe systems that carry water, steam, air, or other liquids or gases. May install heating and cooling equipment and mechanical control systems.

  • Do you want to become an

    Ironworker?

    Raise, place, and unite iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks. May erect metal storage tanks and assemble prefabricated metal buildings.

  • Do you want to become an

    Electrician?

    Perform preliminary work with the material and tools of the trade; residential and commercial rough wiring and finish work including the installation of various kinds of wires, cables, and conduits per the National Electrical Code; industrial lighting and service installation; motors controls and installation including emergency generators, relays, and timing devices.
