Minimum wage is the lowest hourly, daily or monthly wage that businesses may legally pay to employees or workers. The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions enforces the state and federal minimum wage. Certain cities enforce their own minimum wage. Most New Mexico businesses will see the state minimum wage increase and will be required to pay a minimum wage of:
- $7.50 per hour effective January 1, 2009
- $6.50 per hour effective January 1, 2008
Federal minimum wage increases:
- $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009
- $6.55 per hour effective July 24, 2008
- $5.85 per hour effective July 24, 2007
