Teacher Apprenticeship Program

The Teacher Apprentice will work alongside experienced teachers to gain practical classroom experience, develop teaching and classroom management skills, and complete related instruction. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Support: Assist lead teachers with classroom management, lesson planning, and instructional delivery. Participate in group activities, monitor student behavior, and provide additional support to students as needed.
  • Instructional Assistance: Help with small group instruction, individualized learning, and tutoring. Provide support to students who may need extra help understanding concepts or completing assignments.
  • Classroom Setup and Organization: Assist with classroom setup, including arranging desks, organizing materials, and maintaining a clean and welcoming classroom environment. Help with bulletin board displays, learning centers, and other classroom visuals.
  • Student Supervision: Monitor students during non-instructional times, such as recess, lunch, and hallway transitions. Ensure student safety and enforce school rules and policies.
  • Collaboration with Teachers and Staff: Work closely with lead teachers, educational assistants, and other school staff to coordinate classroom activities and support the educational goals of the school. Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Student Assessment and Feedback: Assist with the administration of assessments and provide feedback to students under the guidance of lead teachers. Help record student progress and maintain accurate records.
  • Parent Communication: Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other school events as needed. Communicate with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing training and professional development opportunities. Stay current with best practices in elementary education and apply learning in the classroom setting.

Average Salary in New Mexico based on the Occupational Information Network (O*Net).

Who Can Be a Teacher?

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must hold a current NMPED paraprofessional license.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in early childhood education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with children.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from experienced educators.
  • Basic understanding of child development and early education concepts (preferred but not required)

    Develop, create, and modify general computer applications software or specialized utility programs. Analyze user needs and develop software solutions. Design software or customize software for client use with the aim of optimizing operational efficiency.

    Plumber?

    Assemble, install, alter, and repair pipelines or pipe systems that carry water, steam, air, or other liquids or gases. May install heating and cooling equipment and mechanical control systems.

    Ironworker?

    Raise, place, and unite iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks. May erect metal storage tanks and assemble prefabricated metal buildings.

  • Do you want to become an

    Electrician?

    Perform preliminary work with the material and tools of the trade; residential and commercial rough wiring and finish work including the installation of various kinds of wires, cables, and conduits per the National Electrical Code; industrial lighting and service installation; motors controls and installation including emergency generators, relays, and timing devices.
