Water & Wastewater Systems Operation Specialist Apprenticeship Program

Operate or control an entire process or system of machines, often through the use of control boards, to transfer or treat water or wastewater. Tasks include: add chemicals, such as ammonia, chlorine, or lime, to disinfect and deodorize water and other liquids; collect and test water and sewage samples, using test equipment and color analysis standards; record operational data, personnel attendance, or meter and gauge readings on specified forms; operate and adjust controls on equipment to purify and clarify water, process or dispose of sewage, and generate power and Inspect equipment or monitor operating conditions, meters, and gauges to determine load requirements and detect malfunctions.

Who Can Be a Water & Wastewater Systems Operation Specialist?

Apprentices must not be less than 18 years of age. Proof of age is required, high school diploma, General Educational Development (GED) equivalency or other high school equivalency credential is required, applicant must provide an official transcript(s) for high school and any post-high school education, applicants must submit the GED certificate or other high school equivalency credential if applicable, applicants must submit a DD-214 to verify military training and/or experience if they are a Veteran and wish to receive consideration for such training/experience, applicants must be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the apprenticeship program, with or without a reasonable accommodation, and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others, apprentice may be required to take and pass a drug screening on acceptance into the program and prior to employment, applicants may be required to pass a qualifying background investigation upon selection into the apprenticeship program and prior to employment, apprentices must possess a valid state issued vehicle operator license and be insurable at normal commercial rates on acceptance into the program and prior to employment.
