"Getting It Done in New Mexico" Film Festival at the KiMo

Celebration of Service and Job Fair to take place September 2nd

Albuquerque, NM – On Saturday, September 2nd from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the historic KiMo Theatre in Albuquerque (423 Central Ave. NW), the New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism (NMCCV) and the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) will host a festival of short films highlighting how volunteers and non-profit and state agencies serve New Mexico communities by meeting needs and improving the lives of citizens. The NMCCV event will also showcase a new series of NMCCV short videos highlighting how AmeriCorps members are serving New Mexico communities by meeting needs and improving the lives of citizens. These four videos, available at www.youtube.com/nmdws, were produced by Rio Rancho production company Ad House Advertising- Edit House Productions, LLC and have already gained national recognition during the 38th Annual Telly Awards by receiving a Bronze Telly Award for their video featuring AmeriCorps program EcoServants in Ruidoso, NM.

“The New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism not only supports the Department of Workforce Solutions’ mission to Educate, Empower, and Employ but enhances the resources, programs, and services that we can provide to individuals and organizations every day,’” says Cabinet Secretary Celina Bussey. “The opportunity to show the new video series at the film festival is an inspiring way to share the incredible work of the Commission, the diverse service programs and organizations, and the more than four hundred AmeriCorps members making a difference throughout New Mexico.”

“The motto of AmeriCorps is ‘getting things done,’” says Samuel Sokolove, Executive Director of the NMCCV. “We’re pleased to host this festival of films and service to showcase how volunteers, professionals, and leaders are truly making a positive difference in our state.”

The event is free and open to the public. The day at the KiMo will also include a Q&A session with NMCCV and NMDWS representatives and job fair featuring non-profit service agencies.

The New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism directs the national service policy for the state and directly administers funding from the Corporation for National and Community Services to support New Mexico AmeriCorps programs. From tutoring and mentoring children in pueblos, cities, and rural areas to improving trails for the public, outdoor enthusiasts, and ecotourism, New Mexico AmeriCorps programs are as varied as the communities they serve.

AmeriCorps is sometimes referred to as the “Domestic Peace Corps.” It is a network of local, state, and national service programs that connects more than 75,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet our country’s critical needs in education, the environment, public safety, and other critical areas. The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions administers the State AmeriCorps program through the New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism, a diverse, non-partisan body representing business, labor, education, government, human service agencies, and community based-organizations from around the state.  The Commission directs the national service policy for the state and directly administers AmeriCorps funding award by the Corporation for National and Community Services (CNCS or the Corporation) to support New Mexico AmeriCorps programs.
