NMDWS Secretary to attend Governor’s Cabinet in Your Community in Clovis and Portales

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions would like you to weigh in on employment successes and issues in Eastern New Mexico.

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) Cabinet Secretary Sarita Nair will attend two Cabinet in Your Community events July 8-9, 2024, to discuss employment initiatives in Eastern New Mexico and provide an opportunity for residents of Clovis and Portales, including those across Curry and Roosevelt counties, to ask questions and raise concerns.

“I look forward to speaking to residents and business owners about their workforce needs, challenges, and successes,” said NMDWS Cabinet Secretary Sarita Nair. “Regional sessions in the eastern area were very valuable in the planning process for the New Mexico Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act 4-year Combined State Plan. The plan emphasizes the immediate needs of New Mexico communities to build and improve infrastructure and take care of each other, and we hope to learn more about these communities’ specific needs during the event.”

The Eastern Area Workforce Development Board continues to champion innovation by connecting youth to employment opportunities through the Unearthing Future Opportunities (UFO) Conference held in April and the Clovis Hires events developed by the City of Clovis and Mayor Mike Morris.

Expanding services across the state is pivotal in meeting the workforce needs of New Mexico. Secretary Nair will discuss the opening of a remote access point in Portales that provides all the information and services of a full Workforce Connection Center.

Events will be held from 4-7 p.m. on both dates starting at Clovis Community College on July 8th and then Eastern New Mexico University on July 9th.

Prior to the Cabinet in Your Community event on July 9th, Secretary Nair will be at the Clovis New Mexico Workforce Connection from 10-11 a.m. for a meet and greet.

Those interested in attending may RSVP to Area Manager Mary Cordova at 575-268-2566 or by email at Mary.Cordova@dws.nm.gov.
