FEMA expands qualifications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance for 2022 Wildfires

New Mexicans may receive benefits for employment impacted in an affected county
Earlier this year, Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) was made available for individuals whose employment was impacted by the 2022 Wildfires. Following the approval of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s request to expand the federal Disaster Declaration, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has expanded this disaster declaration to include flooding, mudflows, and debris flows directly related to the 2022 Wildfires.

New Mexico's Unemployment Rate was 4.5% in July 2022

New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in July 2022, down from 4.9 percent in June and down from 7.0 percent in July 2021. The national unemployment rate in July was 3.5 percent, down from 3.6 percent in June and down from 5.7 percent in July 2021. Total nonagricultural payroll employment grew by 37,100 jobs, or 3.9 percent, between July 2021 and July 2022.
