Ribbon-cutting ceremony for new Workforce Connection Center location in Farmington

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for August 18, 2022 for the grand opening of the Farmington New Mexico Workforce Connection Center that has been relocated to a San Juan College owned building off campus.

“The new Farmington Workforce Connection Center location will make it easier to engage with job seekers and businesses,” said Department of Workforce Solutions Secretary Sarita Nair. “Consolidating services to one convenient location benefits everyone we serve, including workers, job seekers, businesses, and veterans.”

The event will be attended by the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) Secretary Sarita Nair who will be joined by San Juan Vice President Dr. Lorenzo Reyes, President and CEO Jamie Church of the Farmington Chamber of Commerce, and Joseph Weathers, Chair of the Northern Area Workforce Development Board.

“Partnering with the Department of Workforce Solutions and the Northern Area Local Workforce Development Board benefits both individuals and employers throughout the entire region,” said Dr. Lorenzo Reyes, San Juan College Associate Vice President of Workforce, Economic and Resource Development. “It is rewarding to be part of the collaborative efforts that have established a one-stop location to assist individuals increase their job skills, as well as ensure our businesses have access to a prepared and talented workforce.”

"After years of preparation we are proud to officially open this modern Workforce Connection office in Farmington, where all the partners who are working on job training, education and job placement are collocated and working together,” said NAWDB Chair Joseph Weathers. “This true ‘One Stop’ center is going to improve peoples' lives by making it easier for employers and job seekers to connect and get the training they need to land that great job."

“The Farmington Chamber of Commerce is pleased to be involved in the work that the Department of Workforce Solutions is doing to provide solutions to the challenges our area businesses are facing with staffing and training challenges,” said Jamie Church, Farmington Chamber of Commerce President and CEO. “Our Redcoat Ambassadors will be ready to welcome all attendees to the ribbon cutting, and the Farmington Chamber of Commerce looks forward to continued collaboration with the Northern Area Local Workforce Development Board and the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions.”

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) oversees the New Mexico public workforce system. The department is committed to supporting the business community through special recruitment, analyzing hard to fill jobs, layoffs, job fairs, and skills assessments for hiring; and assisting New Mexicans seeking employment opportunities with job search, job referrals and placement, and customized skill development such as interviewing skills and resume writing. The department administers programs to include business services; workforce training; Unemployment Insurance; labor law enforcement; veterans’ services; and labor market information.
