New Mexico's Unemployment Rate was 4.4% in August 2022

New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.4 percent in August 2022, down from 4.5 percent in July and down from 6.8 percent in August 2021. The national unemployment rate in August was 3.7 percent, up from 3.5 percent in July and down from 5.2 percent in August 2021. Total nonagricultural payroll employment grew by 28,400 jobs, or 3.4 percent, between August 2021 and August 2022.

FEMA expands qualifications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance for 2022 Wildfires

New Mexicans may receive benefits for employment impacted in an affected county
Earlier this year, Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) was made available for individuals whose employment was impacted by the 2022 Wildfires. Following the approval of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s request to expand the federal Disaster Declaration, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has expanded this disaster declaration to include flooding, mudflows, and debris flows directly related to the 2022 Wildfires.
