2024-2025 AmeriCorps State Request for Applications - Formula Pool Supplemental and Planning Grants (Expired June 4th, 2024)

 

Funding Overview

On May 29th, 2024, the Serve New Mexico Commission will release its Request for Applications (RFA: #25-631-7004-00099), based on AmeriCorps Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the 2024–2025 Program Year. The 2024 “Formula Pool Supplemental and Planning Grants” competition is to request applications to establish AmeriCorps programs throughout the State of New Mexico to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic participation through service with a focus area of Education as well as Planning Grants that will engage coalitions in statewide change/impact.

This funding competition is called “Formula Pool Supplemental and Planning Grants” because AmeriCorps uses a population-based formula to distribute AmeriCorps program funding to each state as well as providing opportunities for new planning grant coalitions. The Commission’s application and review process is designed to identify and determine which programs will be funded with these formula funds. See RFA 25-631-7004-00099 (below) for Program Year 2024–2025 funding priorities under this RFA.

Funding Overview

On March 11, 2022, the Serve New Mexico Commission released its Request for Applications (RFA: #22-631-7004-00089), based on the Corporation for National and Community Service’s Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the 2022–2023 Program Year. The 2022 “Formula” competition is to request applications to establish AmeriCorps programs throughout the State of New Mexico to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic participation through service.

This funding competition is called “Formula” because the Corporation for National and Community Service uses a population based formula to distribute AmeriCorps program funding to each state. The Commission’s application and review process is designed to identify and determine which programs will be funded with these formula funds. On October 8, 2019, Serve New Mexico Commission released its Request for Applications, based on the Corporation for National and Community Service’s (CNCS) Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the 2020-2021 Program Year. The 2020 “Competitive” competition will target AmeriCorps grant making on the six national focus areas identified in the Serve America Act and the agency's five-year Strategic Plan: disaster services, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and veterans and military families. In order to maximize the impact of public investment in national service, the CNCS will fund programs that can demonstrate community impact and solve community problems using an evidence-based or evidence-informed approach.

Through the 2020 competition, CNCS seeks to prioritize the investment of national service resources in Economic Opportunity, Education, Healthy Futures, Veterans and Military Families, Rural Intermediaries, Safer Communities, and Faith-Based Organizations. The 2018 competition will target AmeriCorps grant making on the six national focus areas identified in the Serve America Act and the agency's five-year Strategic Plan: disaster services, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and veterans and military families. In order to maximize the impact of the public investment in national service, CNCS will fund programs that can demonstrate community impact and solve community problems using an evidence-based or evidence-informed approach.

This RFP is for organizations interested in receiving an operational grant to bring AmeriCorps Members to their organization, or receiving a planning grant to design an AmeriCorps program. Selected organizations receive grants to support AmeriCorps members placed in service to meet critical needs in New Mexico.

Each year, 80,000 Americans serve our nation in local and national nonprofit groups through AmeriCorps. With funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and administration by NMCCV, AmeriCorps members dedicate a year of their life to intensive community service in exchange for a small living stipend and college scholarship. The experience often leads to a life enriched by volunteering and in many cases, a career in nonprofits or public service.

AmeriCorps programs address critical community needs including Education, Disaster Services, Economic Opportunity, Environmental Stewardship, Healthy Futures, and Veterans & Military Families. Sample activities include tutoring and mentoring youth, response to local disasters, restoring natural habitats, respite care to seniors and job training/placement. AmeriCorps members also mobilize community volunteers and strengthen the capacity of the organizations where they serve.
