A map of New Mexico with blue and red pins through the locations that AmeriCorps Program Rocky Mountain Youth Corps has served with the title History and the AmeriCorps New Mexico Logo.

AmeriCorps was established in 1994, with roots dating back to earlier national service efforts that have shaped a long-standing American commitment to civic responsibility, including the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Montgomery GI Bill, and the Peace Corps.

From its inception, AmeriCorps has paired service with opportunity. Members who commit to service in schools, nonprofits, and community organizations receive a modest living allowance and an education award that supports past or future schooling.

AmeriCorps operates through partnerships with local and national organizations that recruit, train, and support their own members. These partners design programs that respond to community priorities and provide the resources needed to match federal funding. Together, they form a nationwide network that continues the legacy of service while adapting to the evolving needs of communities across the country.
